Mohanlal’s directorial debut ‘Barrows’ is a magical folk tale. The film tells the story of the character Burroughs, a confidant of the Portuguese ruler of Goa, who guards the treasure.

mMohanlal is Layalam’s acting wonder. Mohanlal, who has been in the film industry for decades, is the first film to be directed by the audience. Burroughs is finally in theaters about the end of that longing. Mohanlal has made a beautiful film with a very simple folk tale, with magnificent visuals.
Burroughs, who came as a slave and was close to the Portuguese ruler of Goa, was a confidant of De Gama. Burroughs and DeGama’s daughter Isabella have a great friendship. But at one point during an enemy attack, Burroughs is sent away by DeGama as the guardian of the treasure through magic. Thirteen generations later, Burroughs waits to pass the treasure on to DeGama’s descendants, accompanied by an African doll called Voodoo as a guide.
From here, Burroughs presents what happens when DeGama’s successor arrives in search of the treasure. ‘Somewhere, somewhere there was a demon guarding a treasure’ We must have heard such a story when we were young. Mohanlal and his team are presenting such a story from Parangi folklore.
The film is a performance film by Mohanlal in the lead role of Burroughs, director and singer. All the setup and use of a fairy tale shows the extent to which Lal incorporated his experience in cinema into Burroughs’ task. Santhosh Sivan’s cinematography is also excellent. As the film is shot in 3D, technically the film retains that quality.
The role of Isabella played by Shaila McCaffrey is the backbone of the film. It is well portrayed in the film. ‘Burrows’ is produced by Anthony Perumbavoor under the banner of Ashirwad Cinemas. Ravis is also a production partner. . Teenage music prodigy Lydian Nadaswaram is the music director of the film. All the songs in the film are very close to the story.
There are many who observe Mohanlal as a person who always keeps the children’s personality in his behavior. In such a way, Burroughs is a creation of Mohanlal without that childhood leaking anywhere. You may have seen the film like enjoying a grandmother’s story. Burroughs is a relief for those looking to make the switch from recent screen experiences that were sometimes full of gore to a family film.
