ACB initiates probe into irregularities in Formula E-race held in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Dec 25 (UNI) Days after registering a case in connection with certain irregularities committed in the Formula E-race held in Hyderabad in February last year, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials commenced its probe on Wednesday.

A team of ACB officials reportedly met with M Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department and sought information about the conduct of Formula E race.

ACB team also met a few officials of the HMDA and sought certain official documents of communications between the HMDA and the company that organized the Formula E race.

The ACB team will also visit the bank concerned to get information about the financial transactions made for the conduct of the race, according to sources here on Wednesday.

It may be mentioned here that the Telangana High Court had earlier granted interim relief to BRS Working President and former Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) from his arrest in the Formula E race corruption case until December 30. While granting the relief, the court also allowed the ACB to continue its investigation into the matter.

KTR earlier had moved the High Court, seeking to quash the First Information Report (FIR) registered against him by the ACB.

The FIR alleges that KTR, during his tenure as Minister, misused government funds in connection with the Formula E race held in Hyderabad in 2023.

The ACB registered the case accusing KTR of directing the HMDA to pay Rs 55 crore to a foreign company in violation of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.

The FIR filed under Sections 13(1)(a), 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 409 and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code, claims that the money was transferred improperly, causing financial misconduct.
