Blackberry Island, nestled amidst the serene Tadvai forests of the Eturunagaram Wildlife Sanctuary in Mulugu district, is ready to welcome tourists with its unique blend of natural beauty and modern amenities.
Local MLA and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) stated that the island offers a perfect retreat for those seeking tranquillity and recreation. “Located near National Highway 163, in the middle of a stream, it is an ideal getaway for people living in concrete jungles. Here, you can breathe abundant oxygen, gaze at the beautiful sky, and enjoy a campfire,” she said, adding that the government is taking steps to promote tourism in Mulugu district, considering its attractions such as the Bogatha Waterfalls and Laknavaram Lake.

Spanning five acres and surrounded by a stream and verdant forests, Blackberry Island provides a picturesque retreat for nature enthusiasts. District Collector T.S. Divakara stated that efforts are underway, in collaboration with the Forest Department, to develop the site into a premier tourist destination.

Visitors can choose from 50 modern tents, accommodating two to four occupants, ensuring comfortable stays. Recreational options include beach volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, and shuttle courts, along with fishing and water games in the nearby streams. Culinary offerings feature Telangana and North Indian cuisines, prepared by expert chefs at a dedicated restaurant.
Emphasising sustainability, the island incorporates eco-friendly infrastructure, including solar-powered lights and bamboo fencing, to preserve the natural ecosystem. As part of a trial run, Minister Seethakka, along with Mahabubabad MP Porika Balaram Naik, Bhadrachalam MLA Tellam Venkat Rao, and District Collector T.S. Divakara, visited the site on Monday.
A deck overlooking the forest provides breathtaking views, while campfires offer a cozy setting for evening gatherings. “This island is designed to provide a holistic experience, combining relaxation and adventure,” said T.S. Divakara.
Located about 220 km from Hyderabad and 150 km from Bhadrachalam, the island is easily accessible by road. Tourists can book their stay through the Tourism Department’s app or a soon-to-be-launched website.

Blackberry Island joins Mulugu’s roster of popular destinations, including Laknavaram Lake, Ramappa Temple, and Bogatha Waterfalls. “We are taking steps to unveil the facilities very soon. The date of inauguration is yet to be fixed,” said an official.
