Maruti eVitara Electric SUV
With the advent of EVs and increased acceptance in electric mobility, Maruti Suzuki and Suzuki Global have ventured into this segment with eVitara. This is their first electric vehicle and will launch sometime in 2025. There will be a Toyota counterpart of this vehicle as well, called Urban Cruiser EV.
Production of both these vehicles will happen in Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant in India. eVitara is a global product and will be launched in markets like Europe and Japan. India launch of this vehicle is highly likely too. Ahead of launch, Suzuki has released a new TVC showing eVitara blitzing through snow, demonstrating its SUV credentials.
On Christmas, Suzuki aired a test drive movie of an eVitara prototype in snow at one of Japan’s proving course in Hokkaido prefecture. The company mentions that this test mule was tested on the Snow to identify any malfunction in tricky terrains and low temperature conditions. In the video, we can see eVitara heroically drifting through snow in Japan.
While many of the rivals are more interested in offering single motor FWD vehicles, Suzuki is going a different route. eVitara is predominantly a FWD vehicle with higher-spec models getting a second motor on rear axle for 4WD capability. In Suzuki’s TVC, we can see a sophisticated suspension system too with an edge for off-roading.
