A Lamborghini Revuelto caught fire late on December 25, 2024, on the Coastal Road in Mumbai. The incident occurred around 10:20 PM, as smoke was spotted coming from the luxury supercar. The video of the burning vehicle was shared on X by Gautam Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of the Raymond Group, who has been vocal about the safety standards of high-end vehicles.
Incident Details
The video shared by Singhania shows the bright orange Revuelto engulfed in flames while a bystander attempts to extinguish the fire using a hosepipe. The fire brigade arrived and managed to put out the blaze within 45 minutes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The Revuelto is one of Lamborghini’s most popular cars flagship models in Indiawith an ex-showroom price of Rs 8.89 crore. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but the incident has reignited discussions about safety issues with the model.
Recent Recall of Lamborghini Revuelto
This incident comes shortly after Lamborghini announced a recall for the Revuelto supercar due to a potential oil leakage issue. The recall, reported earlier this year, highlighted a problem with improperly tightened screws in the oil circuit connection flange. This flaw could lead to oil leaks and increase the risk of fire.
The recall was initiated after a similar fire incident in New York in October 2024. Investigations revealed that incorrect documentation during the rework process at Lamborghini’s production facility caused the issue. Two more vehicles produced in December 2023 and July 2024 were identified as affected. The company has since rolled out corrective measures, including re-training operators and upgrading production documentation systems.
Lamborghini dealerships are currently inspecting and rectifying affected vehicles. Owners in the United States have been notified, with further communication expected by February 7, 2025.
Safety Concerns on the Rise
The Mumbai fire has heightened concerns about the Revuelto’s safety, especially following the global recall. Given the premium price tag of the Revuelto, owners are questioning the robustness of the safety standards implemented in Lamborghini’s flagship model.
While Lamborghini has taken steps to address the issue, incidents like these are a stark reminder of the challenges automakers face in ensuring flawless production processes. Further investigation into the Mumbai incident is expected to determine whether it is related to the recall or an isolated event.
