Vijayawada: Prakasam district police arrested a woman accused of burglary and recovered 25 sovereign gold ornaments, worth approximately 12.50 lakh. According to police, Kanigiri police had received a complaint from one Bathula Venkata Ramana (29) of Pathakuchipudipalli in Kanigiri town on Nov 4, 2023. She had stated in the plaint that an unidentified person broke into her house and committed burglary. The stolen items included gold chains, earrings, rings, a bracelet, a necklace, a mangalsutra, and gold coins, totalling 25 sovereigns.Investigations revealed that the accused was Vemula Akhila (20), a relative of the complainant. The cops said that Akhila frequently visited the latter’s house. She observed where valuables were stored. On Nov 4, 2023, when Ramana’s family was away, Akhila used the spare keys to enter the house and stole gold ornaments from the locked bureau.On Wednesday, police arrested Akhila at RTC depot in Kanigiri town while she was on her way to Ongole to sell the stolen gold. All stolen items were recovered from her possession.TNN
