Postpone local body polls, says Kavitha | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Friday demanded that local body elections be postponed until there is a resolution regarding 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BC). She also announced a meeting at Indira Park on Jan 3 on the occasion of Savitribai Phule’s birth anniversary to rally support from BC associations on the issue.
Following talks with 40 BC associations, Kavitha expressed concern over reports indicating the government may hold local body polls before fixing reservations.
She said the Congress, in their Kamareddy Declaration, had promised 42% reservations for BCs in local elections. She, however, questioned how the party could give such assurances without a clear understanding of the BC population. Kavitha emphasised that if these reservations are not guaranteed, BRS will resist any attempts to conduct elections and organise protests in all mandals.
