Took the MG Windsor EV for a short spin: My quick impressions

Could not find panel gaps or fit & finish issues, even after 15 minutes of hunting for it.

BHPian 250Nm recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Checked out the Windsor at the showroom last week and got a short 5km test drive. Unlike Tier 1 city showrooms, our Coimbatore dealership was not crowded. While I liked the car very much, I still wanted to hold on for a few more weeks (even months) until the initial hype settles down and real world feedback pours in.

Turn lights looks very cool in an otherwise boring rear end:

Reverse lights are too close to the center, making them less visible to other road users:

The fancy looking grill appears to be a dummy. Real speaker is located down below:

Driver’s display is puny compared to the humongous touch screen next to it. However, its positioned closer to the steering wheel which works to some extent. TD car was just 64km old.

The touch screen is the center of attraction, quite literally:

Rear thigh support and seat height are good. I would have loved if they were a tiny bit longer/taller.

Battery pack sits below the body line. Is this normal for skate board EVs too?

Is the exposed orange wire a rat risk?

Why is this bar curved?

Essence variant is code named LV2?

The cup holders on the dashboard are too shallow to be of good use.

What happens to the cup/bottle/whatever when the air bag deploys?

What is the vent like design on the A pillars?

Price list in Coimbatore. Zero road tax for EVs in Tamil Nadu makes it cheaper than the top variants of sub 4m cars.

More questions to be answered:

  1. Crash test/safety rating. Can we trust MG based on its prior models?
  2. Cost of spare wheel.
  3. How do the other colors look (especially beige)?
  4. Is the sound quality that bad for a branded 9 speaker system?
  5. Owners manual & service schedule.
  6. Real world usable range from actual owners (100% to 20%).
  7. Road noise was evident during my short TD. Need a longer drive to assess its impact on buying decision.
  8. Charging recommendations (is daily plug-in vs longer gap between cycles).
  9. How good is the support from MG? Do they have control over dealerships unlike Mahindra who does not seem to care much like my 3XO fiasco?
