Vikrama Simhapuri University, Sahitya Akademi host literary forum in Nellore


The Telugu department of Vikrama Simhapuri University and Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, jointly organised a ‘Literary Forum’ at Kakutur in Nellore on Friday (December 27).

The event, organised on the university campus, was attended by S. Vijay Bhaskar Rao, in-charge vice-chancellor, as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the importance of agriculture and discussed the construction of tanks, the significance of land and the uniqueness of farmers’ lives as reflected in ancient literature. He cited the works of renowned poets such as Pothana and Srinatha as examples of this theme.

In-charge registrar K. Sunitha said literature serves as a mirror of societal values, showcasing the culture and traditions of different eras. She emphasised that literature depicting the life of farmers is invaluable and serves as an inspiration for future generations. She lauded the efforts of the Telugu department in organising such a literary symposium.

Guest speaker Madabhooshi Sampath Kumar discussed the poetic works of authors such as Kondreddy Venkateswara Reddy (Nageti Godu) and Chinta Appalanaidu (Arachethilo Buvva Puvvu), describing them as outstanding examples of literature reflecting farmers’ lives. He elaborated on the connection between farmers, their land and livestock, as well as the challenges faced by farmers and the critical societal support needed to overcome them.

Renowned poet Perugu Ramakrishna provided a comparative analysis of works such as Duvvuri Ramireddy’s Krushivaludu and Gangula Sai Reddy’s poetry. He called for proactive measures to address the hardships faced by farmers, advocating for societal changes that would honour farmers as “kings” and elevate their status.

The event was presided over principal of the university college Ch. Vijaya. During the programme, S. Vijay Bhaskar Rao released the book Raktha Ghosha, authored by Anuradha Ramakrishna. The first copy was received by Gundala Narendra Babu.
