The Indian midsize SUV segment is set to witness an exciting lineup in 2025, with OEMs like Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra, Renault, and Nissan ready to introduce new models. This time, the market will see multiple pure-electric SUVs packed with new-age technologies and features. Let’s take a closer look at these upcoming midsize SUVs:
Upcoming Midsize SUVs In 2025
Hyundai Creta EV
The Hyundai Creta EV is one of the most anticipated midsize SUVs of the coming year. The carmaker has confirmed that this electric SUV will debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in January, with its prices to be announced on the inaugural day of the Auto Expo (17th January).
Reports suggest that the Creta EV will feature a 45kWh battery pack and an electric motor producing 138bhp and 255Nm of torque. Compared to its primary rival, the Maruti e-Vitara, the Hyundai Creta EV will have slightly lower power output. The Creta EV’s range is expected to exceed 350km on a full charge. Its design and interior will differ slightly from the ICE (internal combustion engine) version of the Creta.
Maruti e-Vitara
Maruti Suzuki is set to make its debut in the electric vehicle (EV) segment with the all-new e-Vitara, slated for launch in March 2025. The electric SUV will make its public debut at the 2025 Auto Expo in January.
The Maruti e-Vitara will be available with two battery options: a 49kWh unit and a 61kWh unit, both paired with a single electric motor. The batteries are sourced from the globally renowned EV manufacturer BYD. The 49kWh battery produces 144bhp and 189Nm, while the 61kWh battery delivers 174bhp and 189Nm. A dual-motor AWD variant of the 61kWh model will also be available, offering 184bhp and 300Nm of torque. The e-Vitara is expected to have a range exceeding 500km.
Mahindra XEV 7e
Mahindra has ambitious plans for 2025, with three electric SUVs in the pipeline: the BE 6, XEV 9e, and XEV 7e. While the BE 6 and XEV 9e have already been revealed along with their starting prices, the XEV 7e is expected to debut by mid-2025.
The XEV 7e will be the electric version of the XUV700featuring a slightly redesigned exterior and interior. It is likely to share its powertrains with the XEV 9e, offering 59kWh and 79kWh battery options with a standard single electric motor. Its range is estimated to be around 500km on a full charge. Feature highlights will include a three-screen setup (for infotainment, instruments, and the front passenger), a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a panoramic sunroof, multiple drive modes, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and Level 2 ADAS technology.
New-Gen Renault Duster
The third-generation Renault Duster is set to launch in India in 2025. The new model will feature a significantly improved design, better-quality materials, and an upgraded interior. Inside, the SUV will sport a 10.1-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, two USB-C ports, cruise control, rear AC vents, a three-spoke steering wheel, and ADAS technology.
Globally, the 2025 Renault Duster comes with three engine options: a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, a 1.2-litre petrol hybrid, and a 1.6-litre petrol strong hybrid. In India, the SUV is likely to be offered with 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines, with both manual and automatic transmission options.
New Nissan Midsize SUV
Nissan India is gearing up to enter the highly competitive midsize SUV segment in 2025. The automaker will introduce a new Duster-based SUV featuring Nissan’s distinct design language. The new model will share the CMF-B modular platform, which also underpins the third-gen Duster.
Some of its design elements may draw inspiration from the Nissan Magnite subcompact SUV. In terms of powertrains, the Nissan SUV will share its engines with the Duster, including the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol options. Positioned as a premium offering, the Nissan midsize SUV will offer additional features compared to the Duster and will carry a higher price tag.
