Hyderabad: An inter-state drug peddling gang, involved in smuggling of drugs from Odisha to Maharashtra via Hyderabad, was caught by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Secunderabad railway station on Friday. Marijuana weighing 10.1 kg, worth Rs 2.50 lakh, was seized them.
The arrested were identified as Arun Kumar and Dipak Kumar, both rag pickers from Banda district of Uttar Pradesh. The prime suspect, Mohit, a native of Uttar Pradesh, is absconding. Arun and Dipak, who are addicted to consuming narcotic substances, were currently residing in Rathnagiri of Maharashtra. Recently, they learnt about Mohit earning easy and big money through drug peddling and planned to join hands with him.
According to the police officials, Mohit promised to pay Rs 15,000 each if they assisted him in smuggling marijuana from Odisha to Kalyan in Maharashtra, for which the duo agreed. On December 25, Mohit took Arun and Dipak to Korapur forest area, where they purchased 10 kg of marijuana for Rs 20,000. The next day, they came to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
“Mohit directed Arun and Dipak to take the bag containing marijuana to Maharashtra, promising them that he would meet them in Kalyan, after completing a work in Visakhapatnam,” said B.Saieashwar Goud, Inspector, GRP.
Following Mohit’s directions, Arun and Dipak boarded a train and reached the Secunderabad railway station on Friday. They were arrested by the railway police teams over suspicion and when their luggage was checked, the narcotic substance was found. A case was registered and efforts are on to nab Mohit.
