Govt focuses on picking V-Cs for 17 varsities | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: After bringing renowned educationist Kotha Madhumurthy as chairman of AP State Council for Higher Education Council (APSCHE), state govt has set its focus on picking up vice-chancellors of 17 universities in the state.
IT & HRD minister Nara Lokesh is personally monitoring the issue to ensure all the universities in the state are headed by reputed scholars.
Sources said that state govt has received more than 1,500 applications for the vice-chancellor posts which were notified after TDP-headed NDA came into power. Although, many professors from the universities and also from outside the state applied for the posts, Lokesh is keen to hand over the baton to expert administrators who could bring laurels to the state’s education sector. He is very specific about transforming the universities as global educational institutions that produce industry-ready graduates.
Lokesh has already set up a strategic framework and mentorship committees to improve the NIRF ranking of universities in the state. A step-by-step plan for automation of testing processes through a comprehensive test management system has been developed.
“An agreement was signed with the Delhi University for implementation of better university management system. Minister Lokesh wanted AP universities to be best in the country,” said education secretary Kona Sasidhar.
He added that e-Samarth system is already in progress in all the universities of the state and all state govt-affiliated institutions are onboarding and implementing Swayam+ courses for students of engineering second and fourth semesters.
Over, 1,800 skill courses have been integrated into academic credit frameworks.
“At present 22% colleges in the state are NAAC-accredited. Lokesh asked us to achieve 100% NAAC accreditation by 2028. About 22 govt colleges including three new colleges were given autonomous status,” said Sasidhar.
