IMA confers honour on cardiologist Srinivas Ramaka


The Indian Medical Association has bestowed Dr. K. Shran Cardiology Excellence Award for research on Dr. Srinivas Ramaka during its two-day meeting which ended in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Dr. Srinivas initiated the National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Challenge campaign in 2018 and has been conducting community CPR programmes from 2009.

During the conference, Dr. Srinivas also delivered a lecture on ‘Training public in high-quality CPR and automated external defibrillators (AED) use – A national campaign to improve survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.”

He impressed upon those present on the need for community CPR training of all sections of the population and urged IMA to take it as a national campaign.

He also stressed the need for installation of automated external defibrillators (AED) in all public places and felt an advocacy initiative by IMA is needed to sensitise the government authorities to address the issue of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest which is an importance public health problem. He felt a collective and concerted effort is the need of the hour to implement strategies to improve survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

He demonstrated high-quality CPR and AED use using training models and also distributed pamphlets on Community CPR in English, Telugu and Hindi among the participants at the conference.

Dr. Srinivas, a cardiologist of great repute, is the chairman of Srinivasa Heart Foundation in Hanamkonda.

Dr. R.V. Ashokan, IMA immediate past president, Dr. Dilip Bhanushali, present national president, national and State functionaries, the organising team, and a host of doctors from across the country, were present on the occasion.
