Jaipur traffic police to crack down on drunk driving on New Year’s Eve | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Traffic police have come up with a detailed strategy for New Year’s Eve with the focus on reducing the drink-and-drive trend by rigorous monitoring of areas prone to such incidents across the city.
Around 36 crucial intersections across the city have been identified by traffic police for deployment of personnel till late on Dec 31 to prevent drink-and-drive instances and impose penalties against offenders.
“These are spots where citizens, especially youngsters, drink and drive rashly on festival days. We are going to start enforcement of the preventive strategy from Monday evening itself. It will continue till Wednesday,” said a senior traffic police officer.
To ensure the safety of the revellers on New Year’s Eve, traffic police also plan to position guardrails at accident-prone crossings and stretches across the city and at the entry and exit points of the flyovers and elevated roads, said officials.
There will be enhanced police deployment across the city all through New Year’s Eve. Traffic personnel along with officers from the local police stations will be stationed near marketplaces, malls and major celebration areas. “We plan to maintain operational traffic signals citywide till the early hours of Jan 1. We will take the final call on this on Monday,” said a senior traffic police official.
Although traffic police made it clear that there will not be any planned diversions for Dec 31evening, officials on duty may divert traffic for a while if the volume of traffic on some stretches rise beyond control. “There will be restrictions on a few stretches for JCTSL buses and minibuses after 9pm on Tuesday. Daily commuters are being advised to arrange other forms of transportation,” added the official.
