Police appeal to Maoists to rejoin society with promise of rehabilitation

Hyderabad: In a bid to encourage Maoists to reintegrate into society, Mulugu police have launched a new initiative. They have reached out to the families of Maoists, urging them to appeal to their loved ones to “come back home”. Police have assured that those who choose to return will be provided rehabilitation in accordance with govt policies.
A banner has been displayed in the villages where these families live, featuring the message: “Poru kanna ooru minna – Mana ooriki thirigi randi” (The village is more important than your fight. Come back to the village). The banner also encourages Maoists to abandon their ‘revolution’, describing it as a “sinking boat.”
The message urges them not to risk their lives in the struggle, but instead to surrender, live peacefully, and take advantage of government rehabilitation programmes designed to help them reintegrate into mainstream society.
Mulugu district superintendent of police Shabarish, speaking in a village on Dec 27 after visiting the families of Maoists, explained that the initiative was launched on the instructions of director general of police Jitender. The SP visited the homes of Maoist party state secretary Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar in Kalvapalli village in Tadvai mandal and Maoist party state committee member Koyyada Sambaiah alias Azaad in Moddalagudem village in Govindaraopet mandal to inform their families about the rehabilitation efforts available to surrendered Maoists.
Chokka Rao’s mother Bade Bathkamma expressed her desire for her son to return home, citing her poor health and her longing to see him. She urged him to join the mainstream. Similarly, Sambaiah’s wife Sujatha also called on him to surrender and reintegrate into society.
