Police have urged establishments to discourage patrons from driving under the influence of alcohol, and assist them by arranging hired drivers or alternative transportation.

In preparation for the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebrations, a co-ordination and interaction meeting was held at the DCP West Zone office on Saturday.
The meeting, chaired by West Zone DCP S.M. Vijay Kumar, brought together management teams from pubs, bars, restaurants, and star hotels across the area to address key safety and security measures.
Managers, security officers, and licence holders of various establishments in West Zone attended the meeting, during which essential guidelines were issued to ensure public safety during the festivities. “Establishments are instructed to install Door Frame Metal Detectors and equip security personnel with Hand Held Metal Detectors as a priority. Additional security staff, including female personnel, must be deployed to manage crowds effectively and enhance safety,” he said.
To prevent overcrowding, venues were advised to strictly monitor and control the number of guests within their premises. In the event of disturbances, establishments were directed to contact the police immediately by dialling 100 or by reaching out to local officers directly. Emphasis was placed on preventing minors from entering pubs and bars, with strict instructions issued to all licence holders to enforce this policy without exception.
In an effort to prevent drunk driving, the police urged establishments to discourage patrons from driving under the influence by arranging hired drivers or alternative transportation. Over-intoxicated individuals unable to manage on their own must be identified and assisted to ensure their safe return home. The police also highlighted the importance of clearing all premises by 1 a.m. on the night of December 31.
As part of the broader safety measures, establishments were instructed to install proper lighting and CCTV cameras both inside and outside their premises, ensuring that dark and less visible areas are adequately covered. Back-up power arrangements were recommended to prevent disruptions in the event of power failures. Measures to reduce noise pollution were also discussed, with establishments advised to make necessary acoustic adjustments to their premises.
