Visakhapatnam: In view of the expected increase in passenger traffic during Sankranti, APSRTC regional manager B. Appala Naidu has instructed officials to make arrangements for operating special services. He met with various depot managers and officials on Saturday. He mentioned that 800 additional services should be arranged from Visakhapatnam city to different regions. Special services will be provided to areas such as Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhimavaram, Ichchapuram, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram, Saluru, etc.
He asked the officials to operate special services to prevent passengers from relying on private vehicles. He also advised improving the condition of the buses. CTM G. Satyanarayana and others participated in the meeting.
Each year, lakhs of people from cities like Visakhapatnam travel to their native places during Sankranti. As railway and air tickets are usually booked months ahead of Sankranti, passengers generally rely on bus services to travel to nearby districts such as East and West Godavari, Srikakulam, and Vizianagaram. Long-distance travellers heading to places like Vijayawada and Hyderabad also depend on buses due to the heavy rush on trains and expensive air tickets. To capitalise on this situation and meet public demand, APSRTC diverts several buses to these routes for about a week during Sankranti.
