Hyderabad: Telangana continues to solidify its position as a leading hub for producing top-tier Chartered Accountants (CAs), with the state securing the All India Rank 1 in the national-level CA final examination held by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) this year. This achievement is part of a broader trend, with students from the state consistently ranking among the top nationwide.
“The growth in CA professionals has been remarkable. From just 8,000 members in Hyderabad jurisdiction in 2017, we now have 14,000,” said Chengal Reddy, a member of ICAI’s regional council. This surge mirrors the increasing demand from industries and the attractive compensation packages offered.
Hyderabad’s Heramb Maheswari, who secured AIR 1 this year, along with Radhalakshmi VP’s AIR 2 in 2019 and Y Gokul Sai Sreekar’s AIR 1 in the 2023 intermediate exam, have all played a role in enhancing the state’s reputation.
Sunil Kumar Mandava, an elected member of ICAI’s regional council, underscored the profession’s strong employment prospects. “In the last three years, 99% of our passing out students have secured employment, a clear reflection of the high industry demand for CAs,” he said.
The evolution of the profession was significant, according to Shantha Shree, a designated partner at Tukaram and Co. “With emerging technologies, becoming a CA is just the beginning. Professionals must continuously upgrade their skills and can explore diverse areas through their articleship,” she explained.
Emphasising the practical benefits of the profession, VVK Prasad, of Vivekam Financial Services, said, “Fresh graduates with solid drafting skills can command salaries of 60,000-70,000. It’s one of the few professions where formal job registration is not necessary.”
The success of Telangana’s CAs is attributed to a combination of factors, including quality education, strong industry ties, and the state’s growing prominence as a financial hub.
“With the expansion of the financial consulting sector and major financial institutions setting up in the region, we expect this upward trend to continue,” said CA P Murali.
