Tirupati: The overall crime rate in Kurnool district has gone down drastically by 35% this year when compared to last year.
Attributing effective policing as the reason for steep decline in the overall crime rate in the district, Kurnool SP G Bindu Madhav shared year-end crime data with reporters at a press conference on Sunday. While the overall number of cases registered in the district in 2023 were 7,877, total cases registered this year were 5,053.
Under the bodily crime cases, while 38 murder cases were registered in 2023, about 31 murder cases were booked this year. Attempt to murder cases rose from 15 in 2023 to 39 cases in 2024. However, like the last year, 15 kidnap cases were iregistered this year.
Kurnool district police registered a 65% recovery rate in property crimes this year. There was a slight increase in fatal road mishap with 523 cases registered this year against 499 fatal road mishaps reported in 2023.
A huge spurt in cyber crime cases was noticed this year with 104 cases registered this year when compared to 41 cyber crime cases registered in 2023. Police recovered 56.37 lakh, while 2.1 crore linked to cyber crime remains frozen in bank accounts.
