Vijayawada: A 62-year-old woman named Mooru Lakshmi was murdered by her son Mooru Pedda Sambasiva Rao (43), and daughter-in-law Vani (35) on Wednesday, for gold jewellery worth 4 lakh. The incident occurred near Madhuranagar in Gunadala of NTR district here.
Lakshmi’s younger son Chinna Sambasiva Rao found her dead on Thursday. Upon noticing that the gold jewellery she usually wore were missing, he grew suspicious and filed a complaint with Gunadala police. After filing a case, the cops started investigating into the matter. During the inquiry, police found out that the Sambasiva and Vani had visited Lakshmi’s house on Wednesday night and had argued with her over property matters. Later, the couple’s absence at the woman’s funeral further heightened the cops’ suspicious and they started monitoring their movements.
Acting on credible information, police on Friday night arrested the couple at Vijayawada railway station. During interrogation, they confessed to have strangulated Lakshmi after she refused to give them money to clear their debts.
