Punjab Bandh, December 30 Latest Updates: The Supreme Court committee formed under the chairmanship of retired Justice Nawab Singh invited the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) for talks on January 3. SKM national coordination committee member Raminder Singh Patiala told The Indian Express that the farmer outfit had accepted this invitation.

Statewide Bandh: Security was heightened as farmer unions across Punjab convened at key highways and railway stations. The statewide bandh–which began at 7 am and will continue till 4 pm–was called in support of Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for over a month, demanding the implementation of 13 farm reforms. Over 150 trains, including Vande Bharat, have been canceled and buses are off the roads due to chakka jams at over 200 locations. All educational institutions are closed. Fruit and vegetable markets also faced disruptions as truckers joined the protest.

Health Concerns: Dallewal’s health is deteriorating as he enters the 35th day of his fast, refusing medical treatment. The Punjab government is under pressure from the Supreme Court to ensure his hospitalisation within two days.
