Sound Decibel Test Before and after installing Hood Insulation in Slavia 1.0 AT
I really enjoy the roar of the TSI engines, but lately, it has become a bit too loud. So, I decided to install a hood insulator to tone down the engine sound slightly, while still preserving some of its character. Results were surprising.
Product Name – SOUND ABS
Product Code – 5JL-863-831
Product Price – Rs 958/- Inclusive of taxes
Installation time – 5 minutes
A. Sound Test done BEFORE the Hood Insulation was installed – Image 1.
a. (Exterior) – Phone with Sound decibel meter was placed on the center of the hood.
b. (Interior) – Phone with Sound decibel meter was placed just above the infotainment system
B. Sound Test done AFTER the Hood Insulation was installed – Image 2.
a. (Exterior) Phone with Sound decibel meter was placed on the center of the hood.
b. (Interior) Phone with Sound decibel meter was placed just above the infotainment system.
Observation
Heat transfer to the bonnet has significantly decreased or I can say completely gone. There is no noticeable change in engine noise levels, either inside or outside the car. As confirmed by the service centre staff, that the hood insulator is primarily designed for thermal insulation, it can sometimes help reduce engine noise, though this is not its primary function. Quite silly that the product name says “SOUND ABS”.
I assume Dampening will only reduce the engine sound.
