Two-day symposium on ‘pharma accidents’ gets under way in Visakhapatnam


A two-day symposium on the theme ‘Accident Prevention in Chemical & Pharma Industries with Sustainable development’ being organised by the Government Institute of Chemical Engineering (GICE) to find solutions to the ongoing industrial accidents, commenced on the GICE campus here on Monday.

Chandra Sekhar Buddha, Chief Coordinating Officer, National Apprentice & Training Scheme (NATS) of AICTE, D. Niranjan Reddy, Regional Fire Officer, Zone 1 Visakhapatnam, J. Shiva Shankar Reddy, Joint Chief Inspector of Factories, V.S.R.K. Prasad, eminent academician and founder Director of Indian Institute of Petroleum & Energy, Visakhapatnam, P.V. Ranga Rao, the founder principal of GICE, B.V. Lakshman Rao, Head of Chemical Engineering, GICE, and K.V. Ramana Garu, Principal of GICE, were among those who participated.

Mr. Chandra Sekhar felt that the symposium would be useful to the industry and help them in mitigating accidents. P. Krishnaiah, Chairman, A.P. Pollution Control Board, said that recommendations by the experts at the symposium would be considered by the government in framing guidelines/policies for preventing industrial accidents.

Mr. Shiva Sankar Reddy called upon all the delegates to share their views during the brainstorming session. The industrialists shared their views in the session and the experts responded to their queries.

The brainstorming session would conclude on Tuesday, December 31. The, valedictory session will be held from 3 p.m. Certificates will be issued to the participants.
