Hyderabad: BJP floor leader in the assembly, Alleti Maheshwar Reddy, on Monday said a statue of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao should also be installed in the city, in addition to the one of former PM Manmohan Singh, who died recently.
Speaking during a special session of the assembly convened to pay tributes to Manmohan Singh, Maheshwar Reddy said incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a memorial for Singh within hours of his demise.
While PM Modi and others attended the funeral of the former prime minister, Congress top leaders did not. When Maheshwar Reddy took the names of Nehru-Gandhi family members, ministers D Sridhar Babu and Ponnam Prabhakar raised serious objections, stating the BJP floor leader was deviating from the subject of condolence to Manmohan Singh.
CPI MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao also supported the resolution, but said the Congress govt should do something to honour PV Narasimha Rao too.
