BYD eMax 7 | Which variant and battery pack would you buy & why?

BYD has decided to bring in 2 versions of the eMax 7 – a 55.4 kWh battery with a 161 BHP motor (Premium variant) and a 71.8 kWh battery with a 201 BHP motor (Superior variant).

BHPian Ripcord09 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

The BYD eMax 7 is a 6 / 7 seater electric MPV that is based on the BYD e-Platform 3.0 which is a modular platform that also underpins the Atto 3. The eMax 7 is also loaded with a host of nice-to-have features and Level 2 ADAS — (Review Link).

BYD has decided to bring in 2 versions of the eMax 7 – a 55.4 kWh battery with a 161 BHP motor (Premium variant) and a 71.8 kWh battery with a 201 BHP motor (Superior variant). The claimed range for both the battery options are 420 km and 530 km respectively. The 2 variants also get 2 seating layouts. To sum it all up, there are 4 configurations in which you can have the eMax 7. Which one would you pick and why?

Conclusion

We like the fact seating configuration is not a factor in choosing a variant on the BYD eMax 7. The base variant of the MPV comes loaded with a host of features. However, with the missing sunroof and a smaller battery, will be the deciding factors for an upgrade to the top-spec variant.

For an additional Rs. 2.4 lakh over the base variant, you get a significantly bigger battery for improved range, a sunroof, ventilated front seats to deal with hotter Indian climates and Level 2 ADAS for enhanced safety and assistance. We feel the stretch to Rs. 2.40 lakh is justified especially with the more range on offer.

Do let us know what you think is the most value-for-money variant and also if you had to buy the BYD eMax 7, which battery, variant and seating configuration would you pick?

Here’s what BHPian Eddy had to say on the matter:

Quite an easy choice for me – 7 seater & higher range.

We are a family of 5, and hence prefer either 5 seats or 7. So 7 seater it was.

And 2.4 lakhs premium is VFM for the increased range alone. The other addons are a cherry on the cake.

Here’s what BHPian kgt.v8 had to say on the matter:

I like 7 seater bench configuration in my current car.

All 3 rows have been used rarely and if they are used it is for intra city travel only. Bench seat allows you to take 7 people together.

People travelling in the last row somehow get disconnected due to bench seat layout. There is not enough space for them to stretch their legs because of middle bench seat.

Voted for Superior 71.8 kWh 6 seater for below reasons

  • 6 seater makes people from last row be a part of the group and not feel cutoff.
  • The space between captain seats gives more leg room to stretch the legs.
  • My motto for EV is to purchase biggest battery pack available, which translates to more range, lesser pit stops to recharge and also lesser anxiety in case a charger on the way does not work.
