Vijayawada: The state govt on Tuesday issued orders permitting liquor stores and bars to remain open for extended hours for two days, on New Year’s eve (Tuesday) and New Year (Wednesday). Principal secretary to the govt, Mukesh Kumar Meena, issued orders permitting the director of prohibition and excise to extend the business hours of retail liquor shops and bars for Dec 31, 2024, and Jan 1, 2025.
Accordingly, the director of prohibition and excise sent a proposal to extend the business hours in view of popular demand for New Year celebrations.According to the orders issued, retail liquor stores (A4 shops) are allowed to sell liquor till 12 am on the specified dates. Additionally, licence holders of 2B (bar), C1 licences (in-house), EP1 licences (event permit), and TD1 (in-house) licences of AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) were also permitted to extend their business hours to sell/serve liquor till 1 am on the specified nights.
The relaxation is subject to the condition that there will be no sale of non-duty paid liquor and ID liquor during the two days.
