Suchir Balaji’s mother Poornima Rao said that following the death of her son, the medical examiner did not ask her about his mental state.
The mother of Suchir Balaji, a 26-year-old researcher at OpenAI, said that Elon Musk believes that her son’s death is a murder as she reiterated that police have not done any investigation in the case. Balaji was found dead in his San Francisco apartment earlier this month. “Lobbying is very powerful in San Francisco,” Poornima Rao told CNN-News18.
Police said that “no evidence of foul play was found during the initial investigation”. The San Francisco Chief Medical Examiner’s Office determined Suchir Balaji’s death a suicide but the grieving family hired a private investigator and conducted a second autopsy, which they claim contradicts the police’s version. Suchir Balaji worked at OpenAI, the company which created ChatGPT.
Talking to CNN-News18, Poornima Rao said that following the death of her son, the medical examiner did not ask her about his mental state. Moreover, she said that there were “signs of searching in the bedroom, blood spots near the sink and his desktop was ransacked.”
Suchir Balaji’s “computer was on for three days and ‘temp data’ was deleted from his computer,” she claimed.
She added, “No suicide note was found and family could not see the body. The CCTV footage was also not shared with the family.”
Earlier in a post on social media, Poornima Rao expressed her worries and said that “private autopsy doesn’t confirm cause of death stated by police.” Calling for intervention from US authorities, she tagged Elon Musk, American biotech entrepreneur and politician Vivek Ramaswamy and Gavin Newsom – Governor of California.
Poornima Rao also told CNN-News18 that Suchir Balaji was “on a vacation, He was very happy. There was nothing disturbing.”
Elon Musk said that he also believed the circumstances didn’t point to the suicide of Suchir Balaji. He said, “This doesn’t seem like a suicide.”
