As many as 4,577 driving licences were suspended this year for violations, illustrating the Transport Department’s commitment to road safety.

As 2024 draws to a close, the department released a set of milestones it has achieved under the watch of Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. These include the implementation of Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, the Vehicle Scrappage Policy, and the Mahalakshmi Scheme, which has met with great success, and catapulted the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation into profits as the government has been paying the State-run entity reimbursements.

According to data, women took as many as 125.5 crore rides that has resulted in saving of ₹4,225 crore in transportation costs. This initiative has significantly increased the number of daily RTC bus passengers, with women now constituting 65% of commuters compared to 40% before the scheme. The transport juggernaut inducted 1,389 new buses, including electric vehicles, and plans to add 2,400 more by 2025. As many as 8 lakh vehicles have been registered under the new code “TG”.

The Department saw 8,497 electric vehicles being registered since November. The department also focused on modernising infrastructure, approving ₹296 crore for automated testing stations and introducing Children’s Traffic Awareness Parks in schools. Two new RTA offices were established to address growing demand, while PUC certification systems were upgraded for enhanced efficiency.
