
The Bollywood film industry is rattled after producer Naga Vamsi said Hindi cinema is making films only for the urbane Juhu and Bandra pockets of Mumbai. Bollywood directors like Siddharth Anand, Sanjay Gupta and Hansal Mehta are taking offence to the same.
However, the point to be noted here is that Bollywood is clearly lagging behind in this box office aspect.

Two of Bollywood’s biggest hit in recent years – Animal and Jawan are directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Atlee respectively. The only face saving film has been Pathaan which was directed by Siddharth Anand, who might have some credence in his argument.
Meanwhile, Tollywood has two of the highest grossing films of all time – Baahubali 2 and Pushpa 2. The Telugu film industry clearly knows the craft.

The fact that the single day (1st sunday) collection of Pushpa 2 – Rs 86 crore is bigger than the lifetime collections of most Bollywood films in recent months speaks for itself.
In comparison, Bollywood’s Baby John is closing with Rs 40 crore nett which is less than half of Pushpa 2’s single day collection. Though it is not a pound for pound comparison between Allu Arjun and Varun Dhawan, the difference is evident.

If Bollywood can actually make larger than life films that can do the 1500 crores and 2000 crore grossers at the box office, they might be in some position to comment on this matter. Else, any sort of distorting arguments will be seen as cries of incompetence.
