The release of water from the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) in Karimnagar into the Kakatiya main canal for yasangi (rabi) season commenced on Tuesday (December 31, 2024).
The Irrigation department has finalised an action plan to release about 44,480 tmcft of water from the LMD to irrigate a little over 6.97 lakh acres of ayacut in Zone-I and Zone-II in the on and off mode till March, 2025.
Arrangements have been made to release about 4000 cusecs of water per day from the LMD by drawing 11 tmcft of water from the Mid-Manair Dam and 5 tmcft of water from the Sriramsagar Project (SRSP).
The current water level in the LMD stands at 22.870 tmcft.
Karimnagar District Collector Pamela Satpathy on Tuesday formally released water into the Kakatiya main canal by switching on the button at the head regulator near the LMD in the town.
