Vijayawada: With TDP memberships approaching the one crore mark, the party’s national general secretary Nara Lokesh signed an agreement with insurance companies on Thursday to provide 5 lakh insurance coverage to each party activist. Lokesh, who is the state IT and HRD minister, signed an MoU with United India Insurance and Pragmatic Insurance Broking Services. TDP is the first political party in India to provide insurance protection to its activists.
The agreement stipulates a premium payment of 42 crore for insurance coverage from Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2025, with a similar amount due the following year. Each party activist will receive 5 lakh accidental insurance coverage against their primary membership taken by paying 100. Since Lokesh took charge of party workers’ welfare, TDP spent 138 crore for cadre benefits. The party also established a legal division to handle court cases filed against TDP activists during the YSRCP regime.
The TDP central office houses a dedicated cell for immediate assistance to party workers involved in accidents. NTR Trust is operating residential schools in Hyderabad and Challapalli in Krishna district, providing education to children of deceased party activists.
