Hyderabad: The swift response from Rachakonda police helped a 65-year-old woman get back her Rs 70 lakh, which she recently lost in a Digital Arrest fraud incident.

In December 2024, the victim from Uppal received a call from an unknown WhatsApp number and the person on the call introduced himself as a police officer from Mumbai Cyber crime wing. He claimed that her mobile number was misused and several cases were already booked against her in Mumbai.

Keeping her under ‘Digital Arrest,’ the scammers extorted a total of Rs 1.5 crore and made her transfer into their many bank accounts over a period of time. Along with that, she was warned not to share the details related to this digital arrest with anyone.

However, later, the victim, who realised that she had been cheated, filed a complaint with the Rachakonda Cybercrime police, who immediately formed special teams and arrested the fraudsters, apart from ensuring Rs 70 lakh which was transferred to a private bank in Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, was frozen and returned to the victim.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu appreciated the Cybercrime team for their efforts. He advised citizens to be vigilant against fraudulent calls and links on the internet and urged them not respond to suspicious people or links. To report cybercrime instances, call on the National Cyber Crime Toll Free Number 1930.
