Kia India has drawn up an aggressive business plan to expand its product portfolio, production capabilities, and sales network. Furthermore, the South Korean automaker will enter the mass-market electric vehicle (EV) market this year with two new products: the Syros EV and Carens EV. Both these electric cars are expected to hit the roads in the second half of 2025.
Upcoming Kia EVs
Kia Carens EV – H2, 2025
The Kia Carens EV will be the most affordable electric MPV in India. The model is likely to come with a single electric motor setup and offer a range of around 400km to 500km. It will support both regular AC and DC fast charging. This electric MPV will feature V2L (Vehicle to Load) functionality. Details of the Carens EV are scarce at this point, but it is expected to have an interior layout and features similar to its ICE counterpart. This means it will likely come with dual 10.25-inch display screens, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, front and rear parking sensors, six airbags, and many other features. The electric version of the Carens might also include the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite.
Kia Syros EV – Early 2026
While the ICE-powered Syros is set to launch in January 2025, its electric version will arrive in the first quarter of 2026. It will compete directly with the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 EV. This compact electric SUV will be based on the K1 platform, which is also used for the Hyundai Inster EV. The latter is expected to make its way to India in 2026. In fact, the Syros EV might share its powertrain with the Inster EV, which is available with two battery packs—42kWh and 49kWh—using NMC cells.
The smaller battery delivers a claimed range of 300km (WLTP-rated), while the larger battery promises 355km on a single charge. Most of its features will be similar to its ICE counterpart, including dual 12.3-inch displays, a 5-inch touchscreen for climate control, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, segment-first reclining, sliding, and ventilated second-row seats, and more. Compared to the ICE-powered version, the Kia Syros EV will be priced at a premium.
