The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Commissioner of Police in Hyderabad, Telangana, seeking a detailed action taken report (ATR) on the December 4 stampede at Sandhya Theatre during the screening of actor Allu Arjun’s film Pushpa 2 that claimed the life of a woman.
The commission has set a four-week deadline for the report, acting on a complaint filed by advocate Rama Rao Immaneni. The petition alleges that the victim, identified as Revathi, lost her life following a lathicharge by Chikkadpally police during a promotional event for the film Pushpa 2, attended by actor Allu Arjun.
According to the complaint, the lathicharge caused chaos, leading to the stampede that left Revathi fatally injured and her son seriously hurt.
The notice states, “The complainant further alleged that lathi charge resorted by police officials and lack of necessary arrangements, when the film star Allu Arjun entered the theater, resulted in death of Smt. Revathi and injuries to her children.”
The NHRC’s intervention comes amid public outrage over the incident, with questions being raised about crowd control measures and police conduct during high-profile events. Further updates on the case and the police response are awaited.
