Vijayawada: Police solved multiple flood-time theft cases and arrested accused persons in two separate operations.
Two individuals were arrested near Rama Nagar Colony. In a separate case, two juveniles were caught near Vaddera Colony with stolen property. The accused exploited the flood situation, targeting vacant homes at night and stole valuables to fund extravagant lifestyles and substance abuse.
Around 6 pm on Dec 30, 2024, police arrested Vallepu Naga Raju (24) and Vallepu Srinivas (24), both residents of Ajith Singh Nagar, near the railway tracks in Rama Nagar Colony. The duo was found breaking into unattended homes and committing thefts. Police recovered 454 gram of silver ornaments from them, linked to three cases in Nandamuri Nagar and Luna Center.
In another operation on Thursday, police nabbed two juveniles near Vaddera Colony. They were found with stolen property, including 72.56 gram of gold, 316 gram of silver ornaments, and 10,000 in cash. These items were linked to thefts at Pipeline Road, Nandamuri Nagar, and Luna Center. The juveniles also stole a handbag containing cash during flood-relief food distribution efforts.
The arrested accused and juveniles reportedly had habits of extravagant spending and substance abuse. They targeted vacant homes in Ajith Singh Nagar and surrounding areas during the floods, breaking locks and stealing valuables.
