Centre Sanctions Rs 964 Crore For Six-Lane Access-Controlled Highway In Visakhapatnam

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned Rs 963.93 crore for constructing a six-lane access-controlled highway in Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant step in enhancing infrastructure in the Visakhapatnam district of the state.

This six-lane highway will establish a crucial link between the Anakapalli–Anandapuram NH-16 corridor and Sheelanagar Junction on NH-516C.

The sanction for the project was announced by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on 2 January, via the social media platform X.

The proposed 12.66 km highway will begin from the eastern side of Sabbavaram village and conclude near the GAIL office at Sheelanagar Junction on the existing port road.

Designed to facilitate cargo transportation in the region, the highway aims to ensure seamless cargo evacuation while eliminatating traffic interferences.

“In Andhra Pradesh, we have sanctioned ₹963.93 crore for the construction of a 6-lane access-controlled highway connecting the Anakapalli–Anandapuram NH-16 corridor to Sheelanagar Junction on NH-516C in Visakhapatnam district,” Gadkari said on X.

By segregating Sheelanagar–Anandapuram traffic, the corridor will also enhance connectivity to Visakhapatnam Port and significantly boost logistical efficiency.

This infrastructure development is expected to strengthen the district’s economic prospects, facilitate faster movement of goods, and improve access to key industrial hubs.

“This corridor will ensure seamless cargo evacuation by eliminating traffic interferences and effectively segregating Sheelanagar–Anandapuram traffic, significantly enhancing connectivity to the Visakhapatnam Port and improving logistical efficiency,” Gadkari said.
