Hyderabad: The Telangana govt has initiated disciplinary action against two engineers, who gave the completion certificate to the executive agency of Medigadda barrage. The irrigation department ordered a departmental inquiry on Friday against superintending engineer BV Ramana Reddy and executive engineer Tirupathi Rao.
Official sources revealed that the Medigadda barrage’s executing agency had received completion certificates twice, even before the project was completed. Based on these certificates, the contractor, L&T, withdrew its bank guarantees and ceased work on pending tasks.
The vigilance and enforcement (V&E) department report submitted to the govt highlighted that these premature certificates hindered the govt’s ability to force L&T to complete the remaining work and address initial damages to the barrage.
Following the V&E’s recommendation, the govt has asked the two engineers to respond within 10 days. The V&E report also raised concerns about the role of the engineer-in-chief of the Ramangundam circle and other officials in connection with damage and sinking of piers in block 7 of the barrage. However, the govt decided to take immediate action against the two engineers involved in issuing the completion certificates. TNN
Irrigation officials clarified that the ongoing probe by the PC Ghose Commission of Inquiry is unrelated to their actions, as the govt is focusing on procedural lapses by the engineers
