Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which has been planning to set up a base in the city, will make Millennium Towers at Rushikonda their transit building and initially start functioning with 2,000 employees, IT Minister Nara Lokesh said.

Addressing the media at the Collectorate on Sunday, Mr. Lokesh said that the State Government will show TCS and other IT companies more lands for construction of new buildings in the city, adding that further discussions with the representatives of the IT companies will be held in Davos. He said that the NDA government has brought the best IT policy, which would attract IT investments on a large scale. He reiterated that the government was committed to making Visakhapatnam the IT capital.

Mr. Lokesh came down heavily on the former YSRCP government, stating that in its five-year rule, the party did nothing for North Andhra. “It even failed to allot land for the proposed railway zone. The IT sector took a back seat under the YSRCP government,” he alleged.

Mr Lokesh alleged that the YSRCP leaders have been spreading false propaganda against the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP). Admitting that the VSP was facing financial difficulties, the Minister said that both the Centre and the State Government are extending a helping hand. He also stated that there was no question of privatisation of the steel plant.

Responding to the YSRCP leaders’ allegations of the NDA government failing to implement its election promises, Mr. Lokesh said that in the first six months of the government, Anna Canteens were reopened, pension was increased, and the Deepam scheme was started.

He said that it was the YSRCP which failed to implement its promises. Besides, the YSRCP racked up a lot of debt, which the State Government was now clearing with the help of the Centre. He said that no decision was taken about the buildings at Rushikonda.
