Hyderabad: To mitigate traffic congestion at intersections, GHMC has decided to relocate bus bays, electric poles, transformers, high-tension wires, public utilities and trees at 125 junctions across the city. In this regard, GHMC has sanctioned 233 crore for land acquisition at the junctions.
The affected property owners would be offered compensation through transfer of development rights (TDR) after discussions. The improvement works include clearing obstructions and structures within a 50 to 100 metre radius of the crossroads.
Officials said that GHMC prioritised these works based on traffic volume. Some of these junctions marked for improvements and beautification include busy locations such as Mehdipatnam, Trimulgherry, Kachiguda, Himayatnagar, Khajaguda, and Sainikpuri. The move would help motorists save time and improve overall traffic management.
The civic body also formed interdepartmental teams, comprising representatives from town planning, engineering, police, UBD, and traffic departments, to conduct inspections and address these issues. “We will conduct joint inspections along with traffic police and officials of line departments at these locations,” GHMC commissioner K Ilambarithi said.
