Hyderabad: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Hyderabad, Banjara Hills branch has come out with a catchy phrase ‘Namaskaram Muddhu-Handshake Vaddhu’ , which means embrace the habit of greeting people with folded hands instead of hand shake, to combat the rise on seasonal flu cases and the threat of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Hyderabad.
We have observed a rise in seasonal flu like symptoms primarily affecting the elderly and children in during this winter in Hyderabad. At present, respiratory ailments are under control but caution is advised. There is a need for collective vigilance and taking preventive measures at individual level, said president, IMA, Hyderabad, Banjara Hills, Dr Prabhu Kumar Challagali. Dr Prabhu Kumar urged people to stay informed, vigilant and healthy, which will go a long way in ensuring a safe winter.
Precautions:
• Cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief or tissue when sneezing or coughing.
• Wash hands frequently with soap/ hand saniiizer.
• Avoid crowded places and maintain physical distance.
• Drink plenty of water, eat nutritious food, and ensure proper ventilation.
• Stay home if unwell and rest.
• Avoid self-medication; consult a doctor if symptoms persist.
• Don’t ignore flu-like symptoms, especially in children and the elderly.
