Tribal injured in Maoist landmine blast in forest

Hyderabad: A 32-year-old tribal suffered injuries when explosives allegedly planted in a forest area were detonated by the Maoists in Mulugu district on Jan 5.
The incident comes in the backdrop of police efforts to get Maoists to join the mainstream. Around 3 pm, Boggula Naveen of Ankannagudem village in Venkatapuram mandal was on his way to Chelimela village in Kurregutta forest area to collect forest produce when he stepped on the explosives. Police said Naveen suffered injuries when the explosives planted by the Maoists exploded. Mulugu police said the bomb disposal squad was conducting constant checks in the forest area.
Police said in June last year, one person suffered injuries and another died when Maoists placed explosives which went off in the forest area.
Darra Suneetha of Chokkala village in Venkatapuram mandal suffered injuries when an explosive planted by the Maoists detonated while she was on her way to a temple. In another incident the same month, Illendula Yesu of Jagannathapuram village in Wajedu mandal died when the explosives placed by Maoists exploded. Yesu went into the forest to collect forest produce and died as a result of the explosion.
Mulugu police said the Maoists were trying to establish their guerrilla base in Kurregutta and were trying to create fear among the tribals.
