Art connoisseur Jagdish Mittal, passes away


Hyderabad: Legendary art connoisseur, Jagdish Mittal passed away in Hyderabad on Tuesday. He was 99.
The Padma Shri awardee was best known for the expansive and exquisite art that he, along with his wife, Kamala Mittal, collected over the years.
Their personal collection is preserved at the Jagdish and Kamla Mittal Museum of Indian Art in the city. Expressing grief over the death of the renowned artist, Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy said his “immense efforts to preserve and promote Indian arts and heritage were invaluable”
“The legacy they left behind through the Jagadish and Kamala Mittal Museum of Indian Art launched in Hyderabad will continue to inspire generations of artists, art lovers and historians,” the chief minister added.
Artists from the city too recalled the Mittal couple’s “remarkable collection of around 2,000 artefacts” which they said is a “testament to their passion and dedication to Indian history and culture and has brought immense pride and recognition to Hyderabad”.
“Jagdish Mittal was not only a guide and mentor to countless artists but also a beacon of knowledge and inspiration in the art world,” said filmmaker B Narsing Rao.
