Vijayawada: In a significant development, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) is setting up its campus in the capital city Amaravati. The BITS management had opted to set up its campus near Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Venkatapalem village of Amaravati. The new campus will come up in about 35 acres of land. Curiously, BITS management has decided to develop the college buildings in Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple model.
Source said that the top executives of BITS have already visited several plots suggested by CRDA in the capital city and requested for allotment of the land close to the proposed Seed Access Road. Sources said that CRDA expressed its willingness to give 50-100 acres of land near Inovolu village where other private universities like VIT, SRM and Amrita have come up in the capital city.
However, Bits management wanted to set up the campus close to the Seed Access Road and put forward its request. After going through the request, CRDA confirmed that only around 35 acres of land is available for allocation in Venkatapalem and left the final decision to BITS management. Sources said that the BITS management is reported to have decided to take the small piece of 35 acres of land in Venkatapalem instead of bigger size of land near Inavolu. Sources said that the management expressed its willingness to launch the construction work at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Bar Council of India (BCI) had also came forward to set up a national law university in Amaravati. CRDA is expected to allocate land for the proposed national law university. Global famed XLRI is also setting up its university in Amaravati. In fact, the previous TDP govt spared about 50 acres of land to XLRI near Inavolu before the party demitted the office in 2019. With subsequent YSRCP govt keeping all the land allocations on hold, XLRI could not launch its campus.
Sources said that XLRI expressed its willingness to kick-start work in Amaravati following negotiations held by the authorities of CRDA.
