Many videos from China are going viral on social media. It is being claimed that this crowd is of people infected with HMPV virus.
There have been 8 cases of Corona like virus HMPV in the country. On Tuesday, 2 cases were reported in Nagpur, Maharashtra. A 13 year old girl and a 7 year old boy have been found infected here.
Both the children had constant cold and fever. After this, when tested in a private lab, the reports of both came out positive. However, he did not have to be admitted to the hospital. After treatment his condition is under control.
A day before this, a total of 6 cases of the virus were reported, including 2 cases each in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, one case each in West Bengal and Gujarat. Most of them are children.
The Center has advised states to increase surveillance of respiratory illnesses like ‘influenza like illness’ and ‘severe acute respiratory issues’ and spread awareness about HMPV.
After cases of infection were found in 4 states of the country, Health Minister JP Nadda had said that this is not a new virus and the government is keeping an eye on the situation.

Experts have said that HMPV is not a new virus. It was first identified in 2001. After this it spread in the world. It spreads through breathing, spreads through the air. It affects people of all age groups. WHO is monitoring the situation and will share the report with us soon.

Government said – System exists to check diseases like flu The government said India has a robust surveillance system for influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) for influenza through ICMR and IDSP. Data from both the agencies show that there has been no unusual increase in ILI and SARI cases.

- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the virus has been confirmed in two children. Seeing this, I immediately spoke to Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. The government will make every possible effort to eliminate this virus.

- Amidst finding of one case of HMPV in West Bengal, CM Mamata Banerjee said that no case has been found in the state so far.
