Hyderabad: Having properties to lease out has been both a boon and a challenge for Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University. Sources within the university reveal that around 20 properties on campus have been leased out, but some tenants have not paid their rent, and lease documents for certain organizations are missing. Recently, the university sent notices to long-term occupants, some of whom have been there for over 20 years.
It appears that while these properties, including staff quarters, were intended for university employees, many bureaucrats have occupied them even after being transferred from Hyderabad. In one case, the university leased land to a state-owned agricultural enterprise, which built a petrol station for commercial use. However, they sub-leased it to a private company.
Additionally, there have been practices, such as granting three-month extensions to some senior staff instead of usual three-year terms. Considering the last decade, some staff could have received up to 40 extensions. University vice-chancellor Aldas Janaiah said “we respectfully request certain organizations and officials to vacate and are working to get 20 senior staff members on three-year terms.”
