Vijayawada Railway Station receives NSG-1 Status, announces Divisional Railway Minister – Railways News


Divisional Railway Minister Narendra Anandrao Patil announced that the Vijayawada Railway Station has been awarded the prestigious Non-Suburban Group-1 (NSG-1) status by the Ministry of Railways. This accolade is reserved for stations that either achieve an annual revenue exceeding Rs 500 crore or serve more than 20 lakh passengers annually.

Vijayawada Division Exceeds Revenue Targets

Minister Patil expressed his delight at the recognition, stating, “We are very happy and delighted to announce that the Ministry of Railways has granted NSG-1 status to the Vijayawada Railway Station. This status is awarded to stations meeting the high criteria of either exceeding Rs 500 crore in annual revenue or handling more than 20 lakh passengers.”

In the latest review, the Vijayawada division surpassed its revenue targets, achieving a notable Rs 528 crore. The station’s success has propelled it into the elite category of the top 28 stations within Indian Railways. “The Vijayawada division has exceeded its revenue target and has now joined the list of the top 28 elite stations of Indian Railways,” Patil added.

Additionally, the station has been recognized with a Platinum rating by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for its world-class facilities and sustainability practices. “The Vijayawada Railway station has world-class facilities and has also been given the Platinum rating by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). We are continuously working to enhance our facilities, including new train coach restaurants and ‘Divyangan’ facilities,” said Patil.

The station’s efforts to improve passenger experience have not gone unnoticed, as it has also been awarded the title of Best Tourist-Friendly Station by the Andhra Pradesh state government. “The Andhra Pradesh State government has honored our station with the award for the best tourist-friendly station. The junction, being one of the busiest and strategically located, has experienced significant growth. We have plans to further advance the station’s facilities and make it a world-class destination in the future,” Patil concluded.
