Vijayawada: A 16-year-old student, Kundurthi Sai Shiva Suraj, was found dead in his hostel room at the Kotappakonda Veda Pathashala on Wednesday night. The teenager, a fourth year student studying Agama Shastra and a native of Bhujabalapatnam village in Kaikaluru mandal of Eluru district, allegedly died by suicide.
Ramakrishna, Inspector of Narasaropeta rural police station, told TOI that prima facie it is known that Suraj had a stutter issue since childhood. Due to this, he always worried that he could not spell the Vedas properly. He was in his fourth year at the Veda Pathashala and had to complete four more years of his course, the Inspector added. In the past, Suraj ran away from the Pathashala and went home worrying about his disorder. However, his parents convinced him and rejoined him in the Pathashala. His fellow students told police that Suraj was a cheerful and friendly individual who socialised with everyone. On the night of the incident, he reportedly spent time in a light-hearted manner with his friends, showing no signs of distress. This has left students and staff in shock, unable to comprehend the reasons behind his extreme step.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the institution. Many of his classmates and friends were seen in tears, mourning the sudden loss of a beloved companion.
Upon receiving information, police reached the spot and reviewed the situation. The body was sent to the Narasaraopet area hospital mortuary for postmortem. Police have informed Suraj’s family.
