Vijayawada: Labour and factories minister Vasamsetti Subhash has asked officials to ready plans to develop the four existing ESI hospitals — at Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, and Tirupati — to super-specialty facilities. He also directed officials to increase the number of insurance persons to 25 lakh from the existing 14.5 lakh in coordination with the labour department.
The minister, who held a review meeting with senior officials on Wednesday, wanted the existing hospitals and dispensaries to make their diagnostic centres fully functional. “Required proposals should be sent to the govt for necessary personnel and equipment in ESI hospitals. Due to shortage of inspection officers, workers in factories and shops are unable to register ESI cards,” he noted, and asked officials to organise a special drive to enrol more ESI members.
He also wanted officials to send proposals for setting up ESI hospitals in Tanuku and Nuzvid as per the requests by Tanuku MLA Arimilli Radhakrishna and minister Kolusu Parthasarathy, who have sought ESI hospitals in their respective constituencies.
