The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has announced new tenders aimed at revitalizing key infrastructure projects in the capital city. With financial backing from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the CRDA plans to expedite the tender process, aiming for completion by the end of January. The goal is to begin construction by February 1, with an estimated budget of INR 2,300 crore for the first phase of these projects.
To ensure efficient execution, the CRDA has divided the work into several packages. Significant improvements are planned for roads, drainage systems, sewage facilities, and utility ducts in the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) areas of Nekkallu and Sakhamuru. The initial funding allocated for these upgrades is INR 448.32 crore. Additionally, similar enhancements in the LPS layouts of zone 1B will receive INR 588.04 crore.
A notable aspect of this initiative is the renovation of the MLA and MLC quarters, which had been left incomplete after their construction between 2014 and 2019. The state government previously built 432 flats across 18 towers, but due to neglect, these structures suffered considerable damage. The CRDA’s current plan includes comprehensive renovations, focusing on architectural finishes, electrical fittings, plumbing, firefighting systems, and landscaping. This renovation is budgeted at INR 434.32 crore.
In addition to residential upgrades, the CRDA is prioritising flood mitigation efforts, allocating INR 470 crore for these essential improvements. The authority is also set to complete smart trunk infrastructure in Amaravati, which includes a stormwater drainage system, water supply network, and pedestrian and cycle tracks. This project is estimated to cost INR 381.82 crore.
The CRDA has established January 22 as the deadline for bid submissions. On that day, technical bids will be opened, followed by the financial bids for those firms that meet the technical criteria. This structured approach aims to foster competition and ensure that qualified contractors are selected for the projects.
As these developments unfold, they represent a significant step toward enhancing the livability and infrastructure of Vijayawada. The CRDA’s commitment to these projects reflects a broader vision for the capital city, aiming to create a more sustainable and well-planned urban environment. With the support of international funding, the CRDA is poised to make meaningful progress in transforming the capital into a modern hub for residents and businesses alike.
