Congress govt. and police encouraged attack on BJP state office: Bandi Sanjay Kumar

Former Telangana BJP president and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has accused the Congress government of ‘encouraging’ the attack on the party office as it was ‘unable to tolerate the continuous exposure of its corruption and misdeeds’.

“Congress leaders in the State are blatantly resorting to violence. Despite attacking our party workers in broad daylight with iron rods, stones, eggs and sticks, the police remained mere spectators, which is shameful,” he told the media after visiting Nanduraj, a Dalit activist injured in the attack on the State office, at his residence in Bahadurpura.

“Governments are supposed to work for the protection of people. But how appropriate is it for the government and the police machinery to encourage such attacks?” he questioned. Mr. Nanduraj had explained to the Minister that he had sustained a head injury and had received medical treatment. The Minister sought details about the incident and wished him a speedy recovery.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar said that party workers do not fear attacks by ‘Congress mobs’ and the party will continue to expose the ‘failures of the State government to the public and fight until justice is served to the people’.

Public apology

In a separate press conference, MPs — Eatala Rajender (Malakjgiri) and K. Visveshwar Reddy (Chevella), former MLC N. Ramchander Rao, general secretary G. Premender Reddy and others have sought a ‘public apology’ from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and also the City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand for their ‘failure’ to prevent the attack on the party office allegedly by Youth Congress activists on Tuesday.

“Power seems to have got into the government’s head and it thinks anything can be done to political opponents misusing the police. What happened to intelligence inputs when armed mobs gathered to attack? Our party men did not retaliate, but were arrested near Gandhi Bhavan when they went to protest post the incident. Mr. Revanth Reddy should also apologise for his intemperate remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public meeting in the Old City about getting funds to Telangana,” they added.

Later, party president and Union Minister of Coal & Mines G. Kishan Reddy wrote to the Governor Jishnu Dev Varma detailing the incident and seeking his intervention. A report should be sought from the government on the episode and it should be instructed to maintain law and order.
